Blogger: Missing Quick Edit Icon in the country specific URL

Blogger recently redirects users to country specific urls: e.g. notepad2.blogspot.com will be redirected to notepad2.blogspot.com.au if the user is browsing from Australia.

But there is a side effect that the quick edit icon is missing in the country specific url.

I spent quite a lot time trying to fix it by editing the template and modifying the browser settings. None of them works. Finally, I realized it was caused by the URL redirection.

Thankfully, you can bypass the URL redirection by appending  /ncr to the blog address, e.g.

notepad2.blogspot.com/ncr

will let you access the notepad2.blogspot.com address and the quick editing icon will appear.

  1. Thanks a lot for your response on my query on blogger help forum. I thought it was because of the redirection, but couldn't confirm it or find a solution. Thanks again!!

    1. xxx.blogspot.com/ncr will not disable the redirection permanently. It will expire after a while but it is good enough for me to edit the posts.

  5. You are amazing, thank you!! I've been trying to fix this for hours today!!!!!!!! My Blogger url is automatically redirecting the .com address to .ca and then my wrench and pencil edit icons disappeared. Been driving me crazy! I guess this is only a temporary solution.

Any idea if Blogger is aware of the problem they have created with the country-specific urls?

    1. To see the quick edit icon you also need to make sure you have signed in the blog.

  9. Fix doesn't work for me. I get the redirect from .com to .fr fixed, but even though I'm logged in, the pencil is missing. I've gone into my template and tried turning it off and on again but no luck.

    1. I see Blogger have this listed as an outstanding issue from March 2012.

However Google still haven't got around to fixing their override of user language settings by IP address which has help forum posts going back to 2008, so I'm not expecting any fix any time soon.
